Sustainable practices

At Ammana Thota, sustainability isn't just a buzzword, it's the foundation of everything we do. Our farming practices are rooted in traditional methods that have been refined over generations.

We follow a holistic approach to animal care, ensuring our cattle have access to open grazing, clean water, and proper shelter. We use natural remedies for minor ailments and limit antibiotic use to only when absolutely necessary.

Our farm implements circular systems where animal waste becomes valuable fertilizer for our crops, which in turn feed our animals. We practice water conservation, use renewable energy sources wherever possible, and maintain biodiversity through mixed cropping and habitat preservation.

Founder's journey

Prem grew up watching his mother Bhagyamma tend to their small family farm. From an early age, he was fascinated by her deep knowledge of cattle, plants, and traditional farming methods.

After completing his education in agricultural sciences, Prem worked with several organizations focused on sustainable farming. However, he noticed that the knowledge of indigenous breeds and traditional practices was rapidly disappearing.

In 2015, he decided to establish Ammana Thota (Mother's Garden) as a tribute to his mother's wisdom and a way to preserve the traditional knowledge she had passed down to him.

Starting with just three indigenous cows, Prem gradually expanded the farm, focusing on breeding programs for native cattle and implementing traditional farming practices that respect both the animals and the land.
